While teachers are needed over the whole range of school subjects, the key learning areas that have the greatest opportunities for employment for secondary teachers are Technology; physical education; Languages other than English (LOTE) especially French, Spanish and German; science particularly physics and chemistry; and the arts, particularly music.

 

 

 

There is also continuing need for new teachers of mathematics and English as second language (ESL). In addition to classroom teachers, Primary teachers with qualifications in LOTE, physical education or music is much in demand.

Requirements to quality for employment

Employment conditions

To be employed as a teacher in the Unites States, graduates are required to have at least four-years of tertiary education that includes an approved course of teacher training and 2-3 years of related experience. Before commencing any employment teachers will need to undertake a finger print, complete a pre-employment health declaration and possibly undergo a pre-employment medical assessment.
